Instrument technician is responsible for installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing instruments and control systems used in industrial settings to measure and control variables like pressure, temperature, flow, and level. These systems are crucial for process control in industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing, power generation, and pharmaceuticals.
Here’s a breakdown of their key responsibilities:
Installation: Set up and configure sensors, transmitters, controllers, and other instrumentation devices.
Calibration: Adjust instruments to ensure accurate readings and performance according to specifications or standards.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose issues in control systems, perform preventive maintenance, and repair faulty instruments.
Testing: Use diagnostic tools to test instruments for functionality and compliance with safety standards.
Documentation: Keep records of maintenance, calibration, and repair work, often as part of regulatory compliance.
Safety Compliance: Ensure all instrumentation complies with safety and operational standards.
Collaboration: Work with engineers, electricians, and operators to ensure smooth plant operations.
Valve technician is a skilled tradesperson responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of valves used in various industrial systems. These valves control the flow of liquids, gases, or other materials in systems such as pipelines, refineries, power plants, water treatment facilities, and manufacturing plants.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection & Testing: Checking valves for wear, corrosion, or malfunction; using diagnostic tools to ensure they meet operational standards.
Maintenance & Repair: Cleaning, replacing seals and gaskets, reassembling components, and ensuring proper operation.
Installation: Setting up valves according to engineering specifications or blueprints.
Calibration & Adjustment: Ensuring valves open and close at the correct pressures and flows.
Documentation: Keeping records of maintenance, inspections, and replacements.
Safety Compliance: Following regulations and safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure system integrity.
Skills Needed:
Mechanical aptitude
Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems (depending on the valve type)
Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
Familiarity with tools and safety equipment
